I went to Ragged Point on Saturday just to empty the fridge and do a final walk through. It was a beautiful day. We took some pictures that I will post, just to give you all a final peek at paradise before the snow flies.

Sorry for the laps in Updates
Hi, all. Sorry for the lack of updates. There is really no excuse except I didn't get around to it. For the most part, there hasn't been too much going on and then there seemed like there was too much going on. Last weekend was Thanksgiving and it started out with a real "Bang". First, I should say that no one was injured and, for the most part, things are getting back to normal. Rob, Heather and I were on our way to Ragged Point around 7:45 pm, having just dropped the Jeep off to Keltie, who was going to Moncton for a Belly Dancing Workshop. I got a call on my cell phone from a stranger, saying that my daughter had been in an accident. Well, I have two daughter who weren't with me so I hesitate because I don't know if I have to fly to Banff or turn around and go back to Fredericton. It turned out to be Keltie. She was travelling up one of Fredericton's steeper hills, when a car ran through a stop sign and hit Keltie on the passenger side of the Jeep, rolling it on to it's roof. She says she thinks she had her eyes closed but she can remember hearing the Jeep sliding on it's roof.
When the Jeep came to a stop, there were lots of people around to help but the 911 operator told them not to touch the car until the ambulance arrived. So, Keltie and her roommate, Katherine were left hanging by their seatbelts until the police arrived and cut them out. They were taken to the hospital but their only injuries were a bruise were the seatbelts had caught them. Did I tell you how important seatbelt are!!!!! Truthfully, if not for the seat belts, things would have been alot different. Two of the windows had popped out and their luggage was all over the road. That could have been them!
We met up with them at the hospital and took them home. Norm and Trish came and help out because we didn't have enough room for every one. The next day, Keltie and Catherine took the bus to Moncton and we left for SJ. We picked up the Freddy paper Saturday morning and what is on the front page, but the Jeep, upside down in the middle of the road. You can imagine my surprise. Well, I'm going to post the picture of the Jeep. We're still talking with the insurance company but the frame was twisted so I think we will need something new. (John Lawson has been kind enough to find an X-trail for us to use in the interim.). The police are charging the driver of the other car.
I'll be back with more updates soon.

Weekend gone by.
We went to Ragged Point yesterday, Saturday, to pick up a couple of things for Keltie and do a couple of other errands. What a beautiful day it turned out to be. Believe it or not, Rob and I went in swimming....Yes, on Sept. 11. The water was as smooth as glass, the sky was clear and the water was...well, chilly. But as all maritimers know, " It's warm once you get in." ( one of those commonly told lies.) We'll go down for a couple more weekends and probably Thanksgiving. That will be Heather's birthday as well so lots of reason to celebrate.
Great day today, though Rob had to work all day. Two trips to Ottawa to take the politicians up to meet with the PM.
Back to work tomorrow....Weekends definitely are not long enough!!

Old friend came to visit
Rob and I were going for a walk tonight when a car came by us and rolled down the window. It was Jane and Doug Fitzgibbon, friends of ours who used to live down the road. Jane and I were really close when the kids were young but lost touch when they moved back to Ontario in 1985. My God, that was 18 years ago! It was wonderful to see them if only for a few minutes. There are a few people that you meet in life that you know, if they had continued to live close by you would have been great friends forever. Most friendships can't weather the miles. Sad thing. Iguess the good thing is that there are friendships that do pass the test of time. I live for those.

Jessica got away this morning.
It has been an eventful weekend. We were all running around trying to gather all of Jessica's "stuff" together for her to take to Banff. Keltie and Jess and I had supper together last night - Turkey dinner since she won't be here for Thanksgiving. Rob had to drive to Moncton (3 hr. round trip) to pick up Heather because she lost her drive back to Freddy and would have missed saying good-bye to her sister. (Rarely, does anything go smoothly around this house.) Anyway, they got their supper when they got back and all worked out well.
Jess's flight left at 5:50 am so we were up around 4:00 am. Unbelievably, all her worldly goods fit into a duffle bag and a backpack. So with her new laptop computer and her guitar in her hand, off we went to the airport.
I should pause to explain to anyone who doesn't know me very well, I am very sentimental and love my children unconditionally. I am also a self admitted (minor) control freak. So, to be able to send my 19 year old daughter across the country by herself takes a supreme effort. To resist not falling apart into a quivering, crying sap is also very difficult. So, on the drive out, we kept it light and I kept my eyes forward. I didn't start to cry until her flight was called and she went through security. We hugged and laughed and she was gone. I am so excited for her upcoming adventure and the experiences that she will have. But we will miss her so much.
Just before she got on the plane, I said, " I'm just trying to remember any other words of wisdom I need to tell you." Jessica hugged me and said, "Don't worry, Mom, I've got them all stored in my head." I guess that is all a Mom could hope for.
Thankfully, Heather is still home and Keltie is only a few minutes away so I can busy myself sticking my nose into their lives .
Right at the moment, Rob is lounging on the couch, the dog and cats are having a nap and I'm at the computer. The house is quiet....guess I better get used to that.

Labour day - Sad and exciting
It's Friday again. Wow, the weeks just fly by. The weather has started to feel cool in the mornings. A peek of things to come, I guess.
Labour Day weekend....I love days off but have always found this holiday a mix of sadness and excitement. My Dad tells me that when he was in school, he spent every Labour day trying to think of ways to avoid going back. He often considered running away with the carneys that worked at the Exhibition.
Sadness over the end of summer and missing those people I, somehow, only get the see in the summer. Excitement over new beginnings like school, fall projects, kids moving away. Yeah, there it is again. Between Keltie moving into her own place and Jessica moving to Banff on Monday, I am going to be a wreck!! I'm trying to hold it together but it just keeps getting in the way. Busy, busy, busy, that's what I'm trying to do. Rob just laughs at me, but I know he's not much better. Anyway, I will keep busy this weekend and Jessica keeps telling me that I can't fall apart too much because it just makes it harder for her. Oh, my God....I'm crying just writing about it. I am such a sap!!

Sept. 1st - Where did the summer go?
The weather may still be warm, but autumn is definitely on the way. I posted a picture of Ragged Point to remind myself how it looks. We will spend some weekends there during the Fall, but it's never as good as summer.

End of the Week is almost here
Well, the weekend is almost here. Can you hear me jumping for joy? Probably not, but 4:30 is just a couple of hours away.
Busy week. We are getting Jessica (dd) ready to move to Banff on Sept. 6. She is going to work at the Fairmont Banff Springs for 6 months. Main reason to go out there is to snowboard, I think, but what a great experience. Anyway, there are endless lists and boxes and things to remember. I will miss her terribly, but I am so excited for her.
The other girls are getting ready to go back to school. Keltie in her 4th year of a BA program at St. Thomas and Heather is in grade 12. We're looking at 2 graduations in the spring of 2005.
This will likely be the last weekend at the camp for a couple of weeks as Jess leaves next weekend. Hate to see the summer come to an end but we plan on spending several weekends there in the fall.
This Saturday night proves to be a wild one. The six other people that we went on the cruise with last spring are getting together for a BBQ. I'm sure there will be many Margaritas and losts of rehashing of times on the Ship. Boy, would I love to go again. Anyway, here's to Saturday night and old friends.

Another Rainy Saturday
Friday evening
I arrived at the cottage. The weekend is here at last! Rob had a wonderful lobster dinner waiting for me. It was "to die for". Quiet evening around "the Point". We walked the dog around 11:30 and looking out from the beach, we could see two sailboat shouded in the fog. Calm wind and warm. Great to have some "alone" time with no kids, no company. Awesome.
Saturday
My, God, another Rainy Saturday!!! I could scream. Instead, we slept in, had a late breakfast and read the paper. Oh, yeah, and watched the Olympics. Let's face it, what else is there to do. Canada's performance may not be the best but it makes the few medals we win even sweeter.
At the moment, Heather (DD) is at a friend's house, Rob (DH) is at FutureShop with "the boys" which gives me time to update my "blog". It promises to be sunny tomorrow. Keeping my finger's crossed.

In the beginning
Well, friends, relative and people I don't know yet. Welcome to my "blog" called the Ragged Point Rant.
For those who know me, you already know where Ragged Point is and how much I love it. For those who don't know me well, just let me say that Ragged Point is a little piece of heaven that rests on the Saint John river in New Brunswick, Canada. I've spent every summer of my life there and love every minute.
I hope to make this a journal of my thoughts and activities, for myself and anyone who is interested in taking a peek into someone elses life.
